THE HERON TOOK FLIGHT

THE HERON TOOK FLIGHT came from finishing my first poetry collection. In workshop groups, i was being asked questions that made me uncover truths about my work that I had not had the chance to explore before. It motivated me to finish the collection and I realised that the most profound insights into creative works do not come from a finished piece of work, but from the intentions, creative decisions, and motivations that drive a creative to make.

Having engaged with writers, editors, and makers at various stages of their careers, I found a recurring need for a space that honours the intense labour that goes into creative works. THE HERON TOOK FLIGHT was born from this realisation and having a desire to move beyond the traditional critiques of artistic work and provide a dedicated stage for creative depth. This is a platform for asking the questions that makers long to be asked.

Today, this platform serves as a curated hub for creatives to explore the fine details of their process. We offer more than just a showcase; we provide an analytical and appreciative environment where creatives can take flight, inviting their audience into a deeper, essay-like exploration of what it truly means to create.
